A retrospective can extend a festival without fully overlapping it. The Viennale runs from 22 October to 3 November; the joint Robert Aldrich retrospective with the Austrian Film Museum starts on 23 October and continues through 30 November.

Aldrich (1918–1983) directed films including Vera Cruz, Kiss Me Deadly, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, The Dirty Dozen and Ulzana’s Raid. The Viennale and the museum say the series presents almost his entire body of work in rare film prints.

The collaboration gives the retrospective a different rhythm from the festival competitions. The Viennale is an annual film festival with opening and closing films; the Aldrich series is a separate programme by the festival and the museum, running for nearly a month.

The retrospective takes place at the Austrian Film Museum, Augustinerstraße 1 in Vienna. The films named include What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), The Longest Yard (1974) and The Dirty Dozen (1967). Exact screening dates will be announced later.

The Viennale is holding its 64th edition. The full festival programme is due on 13 October at 20:00, with advance ticket sales beginning on 17 October at 10:00.

The retrospective also carries the German title Rebell in Hollywood. The Austrian Film Museum and the Viennale are presenting Aldrich’s films together; the series does not take place only within the festival dates.
